Clinicians are invited to join this 1-day workshop to discuss the application of Family Based Treatment treatment for TAY.

FBT-TAY is a treatment grounded in the original FBT-AN and FBT-BN manuals (Lock and Le Grange, 2013; Le Grange and Lock, 2007). However, FBT-TAY is different from FBT for adolescents as it:

Family Based Treatment for Transition Age Youth (TAY)

1-DAY WORKSHOP

  • Is tailored to address the unique developmental needs of older adolescents and young adults with AN
  • Promotes greater collaboration with the young person and their parents
  • Assists with behavioral changes and the psychological tasks associated with emerging adulthood in the final phase of this treatment. FBT-TAY is also designed to be longer and more intensive than FBT for adolescents with AN and BN (i.e., 25 sessions over 9 months).

This interactive workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of the treatment model, including role plays and discussion.

  • Prerequisite: Completion of two-day FBT-AN Workshop or 3+ years in the practice of FBT-AN to be eligible to undertake this training.

Family-based Treatment (FBT) has been shown in case series and small randomized clinical trials to be superior to usual care.

The three stages of FBT-TAY are similar to FBT: in the initial period the family prepares meals, the patient gradually returns to managing their own meals, and then ultimately establishes full autonomy. However, there's a greater level of independence established for FBT-TAY patients throughout all three stages. In addition, the FBT-TAY approach progressively focuses on the development of healthy eating behaviours in a wide variety of settings such as at home, school and with persons outside the family.

This one-day workshop addresses the key differences in between FBT-TAY and FBT and provides role plays, clinical vignettes, and case studies to illustrate the approach.

If you cancel workshop registration within the time from when you register to one month in advance of the workshop, you will be reimbursed 50% of the registration fee, and within one month, no refund.
